Have you heard of Invisalign or adult braces? Did you know that in a recent poll by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, nearly 80% of Americans claim that they are unhappy with their smile? Did you know that nearly half of Americans report that a smile is the first thing they notice when meeting a new person? Most people are unhappy with their smile and many cannot pinpoint the reason why. At Matthew Nawrocki DMD, MS, we are committed to educating all within reach about oral health issues. Oral health should not be confined to the absence of disease. There is much more to it and today we would like to discuss the benefits of adult braces through Invisalign.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an orthodontic solution that avoids many of the troubles of traditional wire braces. It is composed of a series of clear thin aligners that gently move your teeth to the exact position determined to be best by your dentist and the technicians at Invisalign.
Invisalign vs. Traditional Braces
Cosmetic dentistry has evolved significantly in recent years. Now patients can have smiles that are whiter, brighter, and healthier. This can lead to a higher level of self satisfaction, confidence, and social comfort. One of the best advances in recent years is Invisalign adult braces. Invisalign can help correct teeth that are misaligned, malpositioned, too short or long, or twisted. While traditional braces are indicated to correct severe misalignments, Invisalign has several benefits over wire braces. Here are a few examples;
Invisalign adjusts the teeth via clear thin aligners. Where traditional braces can be seen from 20+ feet away, the Invisalign aligners are nearly invisible.
Invisalign can be removed for meals and for cleaning. This allows the wearer to eat whatever he/she desires. In addition, the tedious task of cleaning around wire braces is absent with Invisalign.
Since Invisalign is removable, permanent white discolorations from wire brackets are avoided.
With Invisalign there are no painful wire tightening visits to the dentist. The dentist provides you with a series of aligners. Each aligner is worn for approximately 2 weeks.
How Does Age Affect Invisalign?
It is never too late to align your teeth. There is no age limit for Invisalign. As long as one has the manual dexterity to remove and replace the aligners for meals and cleaning, age plays no part in the success!
