If you’re missing teeth, it doesn’t matter how many you’ve lost or where they’re located — tooth replacement can’t wait. Gaps in the smile have serious consequences for oral and overall health. For one, two, or three missing teeth in a row, an implant-retained crown or bridge can help you enjoy a complete, fully-functioning smile once again. Keep reading to learn more about the solution from Dr. Matthew Nawrocki, your trusted dentist in Orange Park!
Benefits of Dental Implants
When you’ve lost a tooth, you’re not just missing the visible portion that helps you eat and speak. The roots, which stabilize the crowns, also provide crucial stimulation and nutrients to the jaw. Without them, the bone will shrink and cause you to look older than you really are. Dental implants take the place of teeth’s roots to offer the only comprehensive solution to tooth loss currently available. This whole-tooth replacement has serious benefits for your oral and overall health.
The advantages of dental implants include:
- Look and feel natural
- Easy to brush and floss
- Eat what you like
- Promotes oral and overall health
- No difficulty with speech
- Reduces risk of further tooth loss
- Last for a lifetime with proper maintenance
What’s the Process Like?
An implant-retained crown or bridge is completed in two phases: the initial placement and final restoration. Dr. Nawrocki performs the entire treatment from the comfort of our office. In all, the treatment can take up to a year.
First, Dr. Nawrocki will put together your treatment plan based on your tooth replacement needs and personal smile goals. Dental implants are placed under local anesthesia and sedation as desired. After surgery, you may have a temporary tooth replacement so you don’t have to live with a gap in your smile. Osseointegration, or when the bone grows around each implant, occurs over the course of several months.
Once the dental implants have fully healed with your jaw, you return to our office to begin their final restoration. Dr. Nawrocki will expose each implant, attach a connecting abutment, and then give your gums one more brief healing period. One to two weeks later, you return to our office for the attachment of your crown or bridge. And that’s it!
Are You a Dental Implant Candidate?
Many adults are eligible candidates for dental implant-retained crowns and bridges. If you are in good oral and overall health, chances are great that you can benefit from an implant solution, too. You may need to have a bone grafting procedure to strengthen the jawbone in advance of the implant procedure. The only way to know for sure whether or not you can benefit from dental implants is to schedule an appointment with Dr. Nawrocki to discuss your options.
